Galileo Galilei grew up in one of Florence’s leading families of musicians, and his daughters were skilled in everything from accounting to drama. You might know him better for his epoch-making contributions to physics and astronomy — and for the clash with the Inquisition that left him under house arrest in his final years. For their first Seattle theatrical performance since reprising Handel’s Alcina at the Boston Early Music Festival in 2015, the kids and teens of SHAK bring this colorful period of history to life with song, dance, and period costume. This cast aged 6-teen is accompanied by Shulamit Kleinerman’s instrumental band playing music of the time, including pieces by composer Vincenzo Galilei, the astronomer’s father.

With musicians including Shulamit Kleinerman, violin; John Lenti, lute; and Jacob Breedlove, hurdy-gurdy, winds and percussion. Stage direction by Carmen Mettler and guest vocal coaching by Nancy Zylstra.
