Enjoy a playful, inspiring week in our age-mixed one-room-schoolhouse atmosphere, discovering hands-on arts and crafts of the past. These classes are designed for kids ages 6-12.

Crafts from History
Enroll by November 1
Discover the pure joy of making beautiful, useful things by hand! Together we'll explore crafts that have stood the test of time. Recurring favorites might include medieval fingerloop braiding, calligraphy, the Baroque art of quilling, cooking from recipes in Middle English, and more — depending on the interests of the students. There might even be a touch of music and drama — those are crafts too! Co-taught by multi-instrumentalist and SHAK alum Nick Chrisman, longtime SHAK drama director and avid crafter Carmen Mettler, and SHAK founding director Shulamit Kleinerman.
This half-day camp is suitable for both newcomers and kids who've taken any of our exploratory arts camps or other classes. You don't need to have any prior experience of any of these arts and crafts, though you'll be able to work independently at your level if you do.

Cost
All of SHAK's programs operate on a sliding-fee model.

Significantly below local median income: No one turned away for lack of funds. A tuition payment of any size is welcome!
